Compare like with like.
Choose equivalent periods
Compare the same date range length, and account for day of week differences, holidays, weather driven demand and seasonality. A 14-day campaign screenshot cannot fairly be divided into calls counted across a different seven week period.
Track the same conversion definition
Define exactly what the number means each time. A click, call, form submit, platform conversion, qualified enquiry and confirmed job are different things. A change in the tracking configuration can make a performance graph rise without a real commercial improvement.
Look at both volume and quality
Track spend, eligible visits, recorded enquiries and lead fit when the data supports it. Fewer higher value enquiries may be better for the business than more low intent calls.
Explain what changed operationally
Did the company expand its service area, reduce available appointments, change prices or introduce a new receptionist? These may affect bookings even if advertising was unchanged.
Write a decision, not just a recap
End each review with what to continue, what to investigate, the owner of each action and the date when it will be re evaluated.
Put the measurement to work.
Start with the information you actually have. Document what can be measured, be explicit about what cannot, and use each review to decide the next practical change.

Here is how to apply the idea to a real local service business rather than treating it as another marketing metric.
- Compare matched date ranges, consistent conversion definitions and the same major channels. Note if the campaign only ran for part of a month.
- Separate changes in spend from changes in efficiency. Getting twice as many enquiries after doubling spend does not automatically mean the campaign improved.
- Record major external changes such as seasonality, new service areas, price adjustments and staffing. Those affect results even when ads are unchanged.
